Born and raised in Los Angeles Ta’Tyana Leonard has found ways to succeed by the grace of God and the support of both her natural and spiritual families. As a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church she discovered her love for God and singing. While Attending Washington Preparatory High School, Ta’Tyana graduated with academic and athletic honors. Ta’Tyana continues to hold the Los Angeles City Strikeout record of 1,086, and after being honored as Major League Baseball’s Charity-RBI Player of the Year for three consecutive years; had her number (#1) retired for her success on and off the field. After graduating from Washington Prep, Ta’Tyana continued on to Oregon State University on a full softball Scholarship.
At Oregon State University Ta’Tyana made history by becoming the first African American Pitcher at OSU and only the second in the Pac-10 Conference helping to lead OSU to their first NCAA World Series Appearance. Upon graduating with a BS in Business Administration from Oregon State University; Ta’Tyana has taken on many leadership roles on campus as Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) volunteer coordinator and Female Champions for Christ Campus Ministry Leader. Garnishing awards as All Region Academic Team, 1st All Pac-10 Academic Team Honors, Arthur Ash Diversity and Leadership Award Winner, and a Lowe’s Senior of the Year Nominee. Ta’Tyana also traveled Europe playing professionally in The Netherlands for the Haarlem Terrasvogels; winning the 2008 Dutch National Championship. Ta’Tyana used every opportunity to minister to her teammates and is a true “Champion for Christ!”
Ta’Tyana has completed Seminary Studies at Biola University’s, Talbot School of Theology, completing a Master’s Degree in Women’s Ministry. However, Ta’Tyana’s greatest achievement is her salvation and Ministry involvement. Ministering to young people about the power and love of God has been a passion of Ta’Tyana’s from a very young age. She prays that her example will encourage young women to see their true worth and honor God with their lives. Ta'Tyana is married to Adam Leonard, and currently serves at Azusa Pacific University.
